Temple Writings

This is one of the writings we found in the Temple of the Wind. There were several pieces scattered about the Library. The scribe must have been stuck in that room hiding from the evils that befell the temple, for his body remains there still.

From these writings, we discovered quite a bit about the temple's history and what happened there.

Xon's Entry 11

In an eyeblink, I was elsewhere.

Somewhere cold.

Very cold.

I quickly found out I was in the middle of a town somewhere in the frozen wastes in the far north. Only Annu and Falahara were with me.

Did I also mention it was in the middle of the night with no moon and there were screams very close by?

Well, there were.

I had barely enough time to gather my wits when a bonfire was lit and I was surrounded by large men pointing spears at me.

This was a situation I'm familiar with. Oh, not TOO familiar with, of course. I will admit there have been... Misunderstandings... Over the years that have involved guards surrounding me with weapons levelled-

Well of COURSE they were guards. Believe you me, I know guards the multiverse over.

Given the overwhelming odds and the fact I had no idea where I was, I surrendered.

The three of us were escorted by spear-point outside the town, which apparently was walled.

I forget the name of the town. Besides, I certainly wanted never to go there again. Oh, yes. I remember now. It was Myrthom.

In any case, leading the ruffians was a elderly woman. After casting a spell, she spoke to us-

She had to. We didn't speak the same language.

She told us that we were ordered on pain of death never to come this way again.

And then they left us. In the dark. In the cold. Alone.

We huddled together until the sun rose.

When it did, we decided to head south. We figured eventually we'd get warm if nothing else.

Besides, we didn't know where to go.

We spent four days trudging through the wilderness.

You know, I don't think I ever knew what cold was until that.

The magical cloak I was wearing staved off the worst of it, but the cold crept in as the hours progressed.

Hours where there was nothing to do but walk.

Step... Step... Step...

Under trees. Around hills. Over hills.

Step... Step... Step...

The monotony was broken only once.

Near nightfall on the second day, we were attacked by a dozen... Things. Lizard like creatures. Hoping for a meal, I suppose.

I managed to drive them off by killing a couple of them in quick succession while Falahara and Annu looked on admiringly. Fortunately, the creatures had no problems eating their own, so they grabbed the carcasses and moved off. We continued our journey.

On the fourth day we reached a mountain range. (It was the Galena mountains, I later found out)

We had finally found a pass and were travelling through the mountains when an elf ran up to us, bleeding quite heavilly.

He said "Come quick! Orcs are attacking the village!"

Then he dropped dead.

You know, I really HATE it when that happens.

The Cold

Being a Wild Elf, I've always fancied myself an excellent climber, but I began to wonder if this was really the case when I first witnessed the amazing speed at which Xon can scale a tree to flee from enemies.

It was a wretched fight in the dreadful cold. We had been walking for days, each footstep colder than the last, when we were surprised by a pack of giant lizard creatures hoping for a meal, I suppose. Well, it is fortunate they would settle for meat of their own kind, for we were in no condition to deal with them properly. After taking down a few, the rest settled for dragging away the carcasses rather than attack us further. We could have handled them all, but I feel our spirit just wasn't in it.

As I said, we have been days in the snow, walking -no, wading through the stuff southward. There have been little disturbances other than the lizards, the days begin to meld together. We have no idea where our other companions are. With so little time for Auron, I have no idea if we will be able to find him. Ah, what sort of protectors are we?

Safe Indifference

Apparently strange company means dangerous company.

After dispatching a dark prince, we were teleported from a stony tomb in the nick of time. In unison, we recited the words; but when we came to, we weren't in unity anymore.

We were wandering the paths of the dead indecisively: a dwarf, a druid, a monk and a magic buffoon. I should have known that the situation was dire enough when we emerged from the temple with half a party, but when we began to be followed, it became clear that I didn't know the whole of the matter.

There was an evil buzzing outside as we spent the night in the earth. I sent a swarm to drive it away, but the next day proved that they hadn't been driven far. Once again, we were pursued...

In the end, our pursuers were more than a mere scouting party. We faced some strange gnomes that looked as if they were from a strange plane... and nearly died. But what was stranger still was that it was nearly the monk and dwarf that killed us. Every blow was returned in multiples to us. We fled with our lives, but only after the dwarf succumbed to our enemy's demands for the prince's blade. What powers this may give those fiends, we cannot know... may the gods protect us...

The priests of the area are not exactly kindly, but they are fair. Their stone walls were more yielding than their sentinel, but once I gained entry, we found a good respite from the trials we'd endured. Rest, and sparring with Gustav, and singing... The magic fool worked his wonders, that's for sure. What a performance! Never had I seen a human with the displays of a peacock. I've talked with Kas a bit... he's agreed to find food elsewhere, food that's not entertainment. Of course, he appreciates the opportunity to be treated without suspicion, as well. Auhron's been eyeing Kas with a prejudicial eye, but Kas prefers food that doesn't taste of magic and satin...

I can almost forget the things waiting for us outside...

But why are they after us? It seems a more hard pursuit than something of routine predation... I suspect I haven't been told everything. What have I been trapped into? This is no mere dragon hunt, if there is such a thing. Did the priest know when he sent me?

As hard as these temple priests are, I at least feel they can be trusted...
